NAIL FUNGUS - ONYCHOMYCOSIS

Onychomycosis Body

Onychomycosis is a type of infection that occurs in the nails of the feet and hands. This infection is due to fungi. Fungi are microorganisms that grow in warm and moist environments. For example, our hand nails often present this infection as they frequently come into contact with water. The nails of the feet also present mycosis due to the fact that the soles are trapped in warm shoes that cause sweating and moisture.

Onychomycosis is also called nail ringworm. This condition appears gradually and its progression is usually slow. It starts with slight changes in the appearance or feeling of the nails. These changes can be at any point of the nail.

    Nail Anatomy

There are various types of onychomycosis and many times a combination of treatments must be made.

You are more likely to develop a fungal nail infection if:

    • You have diabetes
    • You have a disease that affects blood vessels
    • You are an elderly woman
    • You wear artificial nails
    • You swim in a public pool
    • You have a nail injury
    • There is moisture on your fingers (feet and hands) for a prolonged period
    • You have a weakened immune system
    • You wear closed shoes, such as athletic shoes or boots

Fungal infections affect the toenails more often than the fingernails. Onychomycoses are treatable in most cases, however, the fungus can return after treatment or cause future complications. The application of Laser Nd Yag in onychomycosis has advantages over traditional drug treatment as it has a direct effect on the fungi, without affecting and burdening the rest of the body. It is more quickly effective, and is suitable even for patients taking any medication. It is safe regardless of age, medications you take and regardless of other problems or health conditions (suitable for pregnant women, the elderly, etc.)
